If you’re well organized, skilled in drywall repair, tile repair, painting, carpentry and plumbing, and familiar with sanitary cleaning principles and the operation of sprinkler, fire and security systems, this permanent part-time opportunity as a Janitorial and Maintenance Person is for you. Based in Guelph, and reporting to the Facilities Manager, Village by the Arboretum (VBA), you will provide building operation services, as well as monitor primary equipment, for the following buildings: Recreation Centre, Condominiums, Medical Centre and Gate House.

Duties:

  • Follow and consistently demonstrate Reid’s Heritage Group of Companies Core Values

  • Speak knowledgably with service people and suppliers
  • Monitor the operation of the boiler
  • Maintain the water softener and periodically check water hardness
  • Monitor the operation of the parking garage door and review safety checklists
  • Monitor and maintain the operation of the Pentalift, making minor repairs, as needed
  • Replace lighting lamps
  • Repair and re-paint damaged wall areas and doors
  • Complete daily checks and pool maintenance/cleaning
  • Monitor, and report on, fire and security systems
  • Perform minor plumbing repairs
  • Perform activity setup
  • Manage coffee stations and minor repairs
  • Provide hard surface floor care and carpet cleaning
  • Wash windows in common areas
  • Provide support for the VBA janitorial/maintenance team during vacation/personal days

Skills:

  • Commitment to our organization’s progressive culture, including our company Core Values
  • First Aid training, and knowledge of WHMIS and the use of fall arrest equipment
  • Valid Class G driver’s license
  • Basic knowledge of commercial pool chemistry
  • Ability to use floor buffer / scrubber, to strip and finish floors
  • Knowledge of steam cleaning and spot removal
  • Experience with window washing equipment and working at heights
  • Ability to troubleshoot and/or make minor repairs to the building and equipment
  • Skills in drywall repair, tile repair, painting, carpentry and plumbing
  • Understanding of preventative maintenance and its implementation
  • Understanding of the operation of fire systems, sprinkler systems and security systems
  • Working knowledge of hydronic heating systems and boiler operation
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Exemplary listening skills and problem-solving ability
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Ability to work under pressure and unsupervised
  • Understanding of the principles of sanitary cleaning
  • Availability weekdays for flex hours of work, between 8 a.m. through to 7 p.m. (scheduled by Facility Manager with a minimum of 20 hours per week)
  • Ability to deal extensively with customers and residents on a daily basis, and to cope with high decibels from some equipment
  • Ability to provide relief for on-call evening and weekends/holidays
